Bacon Apple Chutney

Ingredients:

  • 6 slices bacon, finely diced
  • 1/2 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 USA Granny Smith Apple, peeled and diced
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 tsp (10ml) molasses
  • 1 tsp (5ml) grainy Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 tsp (1ml) Kosher salt

Directions:

  1. Cook bacon in a small saucepan over medium heat until crisp.
  2. Drain fat from pan leaving 1 tablespoon (15ml).
  3. Add onion, garlic, apple, vinegar, sugar, molasses, mustard and salt.
  4. Cook 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until apples have softened.
  5. Cover and let simmer about 5 minutes or until apples are translucent.
  6. Serve warm as a condiment or as part of a cheese or charcuterie board.
