Quick Pickled Apples

  • Yield: Makes 1-2/3 cups (395ml)

Easily craft these tantalizing sweet-and-sour apples with just a few ingredients. Ideal as a topping for sandwiches, burgers and salads, adding a refreshing twist to classic dishes.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (125ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) water
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) maple syrup
  • 2 tsp (10ml) pickling spice
  • 1 tsp (5ml) fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tsp (2ml) kosher or sea salt
  • 1 small USA Gala Apple, unpeeled, cored and sliced into batons
  • 1 small USA Granny Smith Apple, unpeeled, cored and sliced into batons

Directions:

  1. Place apple batons in a 2-cup (475ml) mason jar.
  2. Combine vinegar, water, maple syrup, pickling spice, fennel seeds, and salt in a microwaveable cup. Heat for 1 minute. Pour over apples, cover and let sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Pickled apples are best enjoyed the same day.
