This rich and velvety Spiced Apple Butter has fragrant ingredients like cinnamon and allspice – but we’ve also provided three other flavour combos to try in your next batch of apple butter: apple-cream cheese, apple-teriyaki, and apple-mustard.

Ingredients:

  • 2 USA Gala Apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 2 USA Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 1/3 cup (75ml) brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup (75ml) sugar
  • 1 tsp (5ml) cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp (2ml) allspice
  • 1/4 tsp (1ml) salt

Directions:

  1. Place apples, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, allspice and salt in a small saucepan.
  2. Bring to a simmer, cover and let cook, stirring occasionally for 1-1/2 hrs. Transfer apple mixture to a large jar and blend with an immersion hand blender until puréed. Alternately, blend mix in a food processor.
  3. Let cool completely and keep refrigerated in an airtight jar for up to 2 weeks.

Notes:

Elevate your apple butter by pairing with:

  • Dijon mustard for a zingy sandwich spread.
  • Plain cream cheese for a delicious pastry filling or fruit dip.
  • Teriyaki sauce for a savoury fruity glaze on grilled chicken or pork kebobs
